In silencing the noises and clearing the mind, the heart embraces the beauty of nature and all her inhabitants. The miracle of changing seasons, the mating rituals, the beginning and ending life cycle, the vocal messages echoing through the trees, the smells carried on the wind, and from the first peek of the sun stretching across the sky to its final wink as it disappears are all proof that life truly is a spiritual journey. I invite you to share in my photo adventures and I hope they serve as reminders of the mystery and magic all around us.

Alive With Pleasure

How blessed I am to have all sensory gifts aid me on this wonderful adventure called life.

T O U C H
This juvenile Yellow-crowned Night Heron was chasing a grasshopper
and found herself tangled in a spider's web!
She quickly turned around and stared at her mother, who was watching from a nearby tree.
As if reminding her teenage daughter that "You should've been looking where you
were going!" the mother flew away.
And how refreshing the touch of cool waters are on a hot day
or the warmth of the sun caressing your back.
A reassuring touch that you're not alone...
and that you're loved.

Though it's impossible to actually "hear" pictures...certain visuals ring through loudly to me.
The sound of a new day awakening...
the wind rustling leaves;
a squirrel foraging for acorns...
winter's silence...
screaming seagulls
and crashing waves.

Cotton Candy
Did someone say chocolate covered grasshoppers?!
I prefer my sprimp fried
and my fish a fillet!
Too big for an afternoon snack!
This will do just fine.

Let me set the stage for you.  Our location is the Southwestern Medical School
Next door to the main building is a rookery.  During mid-spring this small breeding area
hosts numerous varieties of birds.  Due to the high numbers, their nests are practically
stacked on top of each other.  The babies start arriving about the same time the
sweltering heat arrives so you can imagine how all that poop smells on a day with little or
no wind...you'll do more gagging than breathing!  Here are the different species there.
Anhingas
Black-crowned Night Herons
Cattle Egrets
Great Egrets
Ibis
Little Blue Herons
Snowy Egrets and
Tri-colored Herons.

I love
flowers,
lighthouses
a picture in a picture,
(Did you notice the Reddish Egret perched in the center on the mangrove trunks?)
silhouettes,
full moons,
 sand beneath my feet
and breathtaking sunsets.

May all your senses be heightened and serve you well throughout your adventure.
