I find myself in a reflective frame of mind these days.
This time of reflection carries me back to summers with Granny and the smell
of lilacs (her favorite fragrance.) The evenings would find us heading out the
screen door to the front yard where we would lie down on a quilt for bedtime
stories. She would always wait to begin until the stars had fully blanketed
the sky and I would always request The Greedy Dog, my favorite.
It was about a dog who bullied the other dogs; making sure to always
get the biggest bone. One day after stealing a large bone from a smaller
dog, he crossed over a bridge to get home. As he did, he stopped, glanced over
the side and saw what he thought was a dog with a larger bone. Naturally, this was
unacceptable so in his greediness he opened his mouth to bark a protest and his
bone tumbled into the water, resulting in his going hungry for the rest of the day.
I hope you won't be disappointed, but the pictures in this post have absolutely
NOTHING to do with a dog...just simple reflections of various birds and ducks!

When I glance at my reflection in the mirror, I look beyond the wrinkles, crow's feet,
age spots and saggy jowls and into the eyes of the little girl who still frolicks within.
The one who sits outside by the pool blowing through a wand,
watching as the wind gently wisks the fragile bubbles away
and giggles at the ones that float gently down to dance upon the water.
The child who still loves to run through a field of daisies
and laughs for the mere joy of laughter itself.
Who loves to stand facing the sun, soaking up its energy,
and who shares whispered secrets with the Man in the Moon.
Forever shall I protect the reflection of this little, blond-headed girl with dimples who
believes in fairies...
communicates with animals...
hears the flapping of angel's wings
and is often awakened in the deepest part of night by the smell of lilacs.
My hope for you is that the reflections you see bring a smile to your face
and are filled with memories of magical times which have kept the wonder and
awe of this adventure called "life" alive.
The next time you look in a mirror...wink at yourself.
(I dare you!)
