I observed this Monk Parakeet flying from tree to tree
and limb to limb...unaware of the important mission he was on
until a buddy flies over and displays a large branch...apparently a competitive gesture.
Not to be outdone...he selects a branch and begins gnawing away.
Just as a graceful acrobat maneuvers a tightrope...so he works diligently...
stopping every few seconds to inspect his workmanship.
Inching his way down to the cut-off point
he gently bounces on the limb until the break is clean...
and before it can fall to the ground...he reaches out and snatches it!
Up to the top of the tree he proudly makes his way...
but his friend has long since tired of the game and moved on,
but he worked waaaaay too hard to just toss it away...
so to their new nesting site he happily delivers the perfect branch.
